The Secret to…Becky Devlin, Flower Girl
By lbreen, Tuesday, September 29, 2009When not gathering up her four young children, Becky is growing and cutting over 100 different flowers throughout the year from her organic garden in Pungo. When a childhood interest in cut flowers bloomed into something more serious, she read “The Flower Farmer” to learn how to do-it-yourself. “Organically grown flowers grow differently. They are wild and free in fields, offering unique strains.” Becky considers herself a floral designer who has stepped out of the box, foraging for branches and vines to integrate with her vibrant flowers. “I’m very fixed. It’s about whatever happens to be blooming at the moment.” She admits she’s a “flower slut” but everything she designs reflects her natural and simple approach. “Fragrance is also important. People always stop to smell the flowers.”
